Unlike other our other “Great Composer Series” for young students, this series was created for serious mature students of music from grades 8 through adult levels. Here are 6 exceptional documentaries with compelling musical performances. Each program relates the detailed story of the life of the man, the musician, the time in which he lived, his family life, and his professional development and fortunes. Especially important is the effect the work of these individual composer’s had on the development of musical forms, styles, compositions, and other composers. Sketches of people and places important in the composers’ lives as well as video footage of cities such as Vienna with people dressed in period costume, give us a sense of what life was like in those days. The quality of the musical performances, featuring the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, is outstanding. Each of the 6 programs are 25 minutes long, making up the three volumes.

Volume 1, Bach • Mozart
Bach Program explores the life and times of this master, with excerpts of his most popular works… Italian Concerto, St. Matthew Passion, Toccata and Fugue, Violin Concerto, Brandenburg Concerto, and Suite No. 3.
Mozart The life and times of Mozart are illustrated against the background of his music including Marriage of Figaro, Piano Concerto No. 21, Horn Concerto No. 4, Eine Kleine Nacht Musik, and the Clarinet Concerto.


Volume 2. Handel • Haydn
Handel The German-born English composer, George Frederick Handel was one of the last Baroque masters. He was known primarily as an opera composer and producer, but his fame today rests mainly on his English oratorios, especially The Messiah.
Haydn This program illustrates the events and influences that shaped the artist and his compositions. Featured are excerpts from Symphony No. 26, Lamentation, Trumpet Concerto, Menuetto: Allegretto, Finale Vivace.


Volume 3. Beethoven • Vivaldi
Beethoven With period images, paintings, and video inserts, the life and times of Beethoven are explored with highlights of his most popular works including: Symphony No. 5, Moonlight Sonata, Egmont Overture, Pathetique Sonata.
Vivaldi Includes the life and times of the artist along with excerpts from his Concerto for two Mandolins, Bassoon Concerto RV472, Oboe Concerto RV361, Piccolo Concerto RV445, and Four Seasons.
